October 10, 2011 – Fall is certainly here: daytime temperatures are in the 80s and the nights are cool and crisp; farmers are plowing their fields; hunting season is in full swing; apples are everywhere in the grocery store.
I’ve been working on an apple tart – a simple tart with store bought pie crust. I just get those Granny Smith apples thinly sliced, and go to town with orange marmalade and the special ingredient, Calvados, a French apple brandy that brings so much to the table, such bouquet, such substance, a little goes a long way. You’ll appreciate how easy this recipe is and the element the Calvados gives your tart—look for my recipe in the next several weeks.
I hope your fall is glorious, enjoy the outdoors, watch the cotton pop open, look for cattails, cook on the grill, something, anything, it just tastes better outside in the fall. And with the wild game seasons upon us, there are such riches for the palette!! My husband’s Monday night football group have rabbit marinating right now—with hot tamales appetizers and a great salad in the works—I’m gone to kitchen for a taste!
